Chemo:
Travis and I arrived at Utah Cancer Specialist at 12:30 pm. We were taken right back to the Chemo waiting room. Shortly I was taken back to the Chemo room where the room is lined up with Lazy Boy Hospital chairs, many IV poles, and a salt water fish tank. The port that I had surgically implanted just a week ago proved invaluable. One stick done! It was great. Blood was drawn, and then flushed and then Herceptin was the chemo given. It took about two hours. Following herceptin, I was given Dexametheson (steroid) before the next chemo drug Carboplatin. The last Chemo was Taxotere. I was told to chew ice as much as I could to cut down on mouth sores. Upon completion of the chemos, I was given the bone drug Zometa. It is not chemo, but it blocks tumor related bone breakdown. We finally finished up around 5:40. We were the last patients and we headed on home.
During chemo today, I played solitare, read the Peacegiver, typed on my blog about the fun party the night before. It is so nice to have my arm free this go around. I spoke with a nurse named Dave whose wife is going through a similar trial. She is on her third recurrence, at first her experiences seemed helpful, but soon became too much to talk about. Too much bad. I wished him and his wife good luck and felt myself shrink a little. Just then, my doctor's nurse came in with good news. She said that Dr. Chandramouli wanted me to read this line on this paper. It said, "no evidence of metastasis in the brain." Yeah!!!!!! Travis and I both started to cry tears of joy. This was such good news. I was so afraid of bad news and having to do both chemo and radiation at the same time. Those fears are long gone now.
Shannon, thanks for watching Ashton and Jaqui thanks for the nummy dinner Thursday and Kristin for tonight's dinner. This is all very appreciated. I've been quite tired today due to the anti-nauseas medicine, however, they were invaluable last night at 2:00 am. Love to all of you. Jules
