This weekend we packed up two cars and headed down to St. George for the St. George Invitational swim meet. Garrett has been on the KYAT swim team for about six months and this is his third meet. We met my dad, Tracie, her kids, Grandma Jacki and the Cogswells at Olive Garden for an early dinner. Both Gabrielle and Garrett "carb loaded". We all then headed to the meet. Garrett swam in 3 events Friday evening including 100 breast, 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle. His times improved between 4-6 seconds on each stroke. It was great to see the camaraderie between all the KYAT team. Saturday morning, Travis and Garrett arrived at the meet early to get good seats. Garrett was scheduled to compete in 4 events, including 200 breast, 100 IM, 50 freestyle and 200 freestyle relay, however, on the 200 breast event another kid jumped on his platform and we watched as Garrett tried to tell him that he was in the wrong lane. The horn blew and the swimmers were off. Garrett went to the judges and they disqualified both Garrett and the other swimmer. Strict rules at meets. Anyways, it would have been a tough event. It is 8 times down and back at full speed. It definitely would have kicked my butt! Garrett's final event was the 200 freestyle relay. He competed against a very good KYAT team and SUSA team. They came in third place, but they improved their times and swam super fast! Following the meet, we grabbed pizza and headed to Pioneer Park at the top of the red rocks in St. George. We hooked up with Cogswells and Tracie, Grandma Jacki and her kids for lunch and hiking the red rocks. The kids had a blast exploring the sand stone rocks and playing in the red dirt. We then took the girls swimming and the guys went shooting guns out near where they are building the new St. George airport. We met up again for dinner and more swimming afterward. Today we went swimming some more and cooked up brats and watched the Super Bowl. Travis and Garrett headed back to West Jordan for school and work. Lauren is off track so we are hanging out with Grandpa in St. George. Tomorrow we plan on going through the garage cupboards and dejunking. Grandpa has a goal to be able to store everything inside his while cupboards. Lots of work a head of us. I'm sure lots of swimming too! The weather is warm and beautiful - We love St. George!
