In keeping with tradition, we joined Travis' family for our annual trip to Little America to celebrate the 24th of July. This is his family's 27th year of going to Little America to celebrate Pioneer Day. For first 20 years Grandma Betty would reserve rooms 701 and 703 in the tower. Kids would swim, eat Cowboy Joes, get milk shakes by the pool and watch the parade out the window of the rooms. A few years ago, however, the parade route changed, and we could no longer lean out the window and catch the great floats. A few times we'd walk down to the parade route, but it was always hot and we had no where to sit or stand since we had not camped out the night before. We had been spoiled being in the hotel. We then realized that we all loved the Little America experience, but didn't necessarily need the parade to enjoy the day with each other.
Our day began this year by meeting Aunt Jack, Brexton, Tracie, Kamden, Kennady at the pool in the tower around 1:00 pm. The kids and Travis swam until dinner time, and some more family members came including Trav's dad, Pat, and Megan. We then cleaned up and went to our usual dining spot - The Rio Grande. This is another part of the Little America tradition. We ate awesome Mexican food and jumped back in the cars and headed back to Little America to swim some more. The kids then collapsed from exhaustion and we all headed to the rooms to get some sleep. After breakfast at the coffee shop, we all headed back to the pool to swim some more. After getting a late check out, everyone swam until 1:00 and then headed home. Grandma Betty can no longer come with us because of the stroke she suffered a year ago, but the tradition of going to Little America will continue to live on.
