7th Treatment - July 25, 2008

After a fun holiday this week, it is back to week seven of my chemo treatments. UCS was closed on Thursday so my treatment was scheduled for Friday, July 25th. Shauna Jones, my friend and relief society president accompanied me to chemo today. It was an especially nice offer for her to come with me since cancer hits very close to home with her. It has been over 3 years since her son, Spencer was diagnosed with cancer, was treated with chemotherapy and radiation and has been cancer free ever since. He has yearly scans and their family is beginning to trust his body that he won't suffer a relapse. Shauna is a great source of strength. As I listened to her talk about Spencer's diagnosis, treatment, Annie's rota virus, and being a mother of 3 small children I realized how difficult it would be to have a sick child instead of being a sick mom. It would be so hard to see your child suffer and have to wonder what he is feeling. We talked about mouth sores, chemo headaches and things that she wouldn't have known Spencer was feeling, but she knew he was in some kind of pain. We talked about treatments, friends she met during treatment, hospitals, follow up care, acts of service and unbelievable acts of kindness. I can't express the love our family has been shown by others and the burdens that have been lifted so that we can keep on going. By going through this terrible trial, my family, especially my kids will be more compassionate, more helpful, more charitable. They have seen or experienced so many wonderful kindnesses. Travis and I are amazed at all the good that has come of something bad. We continue to ask for your prayers and good thoughts. Unfortunately we know there are tough times ahead, but with your support and love we can get through it.

PS...Can you believe I still have hair. My doctor said he was surprised to see my hair still hanging in there. Every week I come up with a new hair staying in goal. This week I need my hair to hang in there for Youth Conference, especially our One Day Trek @ This is the Place State Park on August 2nd.

I love your blog Jules. It's a great way for me to "check in on you", without actually bugging you!!! I think it's just about time to schedule lunch again!

You're doing awesome! I think you'll still have hair for the trek. That's my prediction. Thanks for being such an inspiration for all of us.

Thank you for letting me come and spend some time with you. I had a really fun time (this from the girl who did NOT receive the chemo). I'm so happy that you still have hair (and eyelashes...and eyebrows!). :) We are praying for you.

Jules,
I hope you had fun at trek. I missed seeing you this week. You look beautiful as always. Travis has a wonderful wife and mother. What makes hair so great...I keep plucking my greys ones out daily and I think it makes them double. Love ya. Alison
