Great News! We met with Dr. Chandramouli today and went over the recent PET scans, Echo, and Chest CT Scan. The reports were great! The PET scan now appears normal. There is no residual abnormal metabolic activity in chest, abdomen and pelvis. The impression from the radiologist is as follows: "PET scan has become normal, and most of the abnormalities on the CT have also disappeared, consistent with excellent, essentially complete response to current therapy." The results from the CT - Chest, with contrast are as follows: The lymph nodes under my left arm pit appear normal, the soft tissue mass on the left shoulder is resolved, as well as the nodule on the right lung. There is a very small nodule on the right lung, 4 x 5 mm that has had no change.
The doctor was very pleased with my body's response to the treatment. He recommended 8 more weeks of chemo to "mop up" everything. The cancer will then be in remission. Depending on when it comes back will determine how and what drugs are used to treat it. Travis and I are so happy at the good news. We are so glad that the cancer responded to the drugs and to the many prayers that have been offered on our behalf. Following the 8 weeks of chemo I will then receive Herceptin every three weeks. I also will have to be medically put into menopause. This will most likely be done by having my ovary's removed. Dr. Chandramouli will contact me after he discusses this with my gynecologist. After the surgery, I will be given a daily estrogen blocker for post menopausal women.
Travis and I both cried tears of relief at the news that the cancer is responding. It was wonderful having him with me today. I have been worried and nervous to hear the results. By looking at my blog, you can see I just blogged today and Travis answered emails and worked. We just kept smiling and squeezing each others arms - I love him so much!
Thank you for you prayers, help with Ashton, meals, laundry help, phone calls, emails and encouragement cards. I am so grateful for all of you!
