14th Treatment - September 11, 2008

Today was my 14th treatment and my friend Page Kimball from American Fork joined me. Treatment went fine and all my blood work looked okay too. Page is an RN and it was fun listening to her talk the lingo with my nurse Tyree. Page and her husband, Tom are considering moving back to Salt Lake and she considering a new job, possibly even at Utah Cancer Specialists. She'd be a great chemo nurse because of her amazing empathy. It was nice catching up and hanging with a great friend. One little incident happened while we were there today. A woman two chairs down from me was there with her daughter. The woman was receiving the same drugs as me and it was her first time. Her nurse was giving her the low down on the possible reactions anaphylactic shock when about a half hour later her daughter grabbed the nurse while her mother started having a reaction. I was a little panicked, but the nurse just called for help from another nurse who administered oxygen and another nurse went and grabbed my doctor who gave her something and then they gave her an IV dose of benadryl and followed it with her chemo. Her blood pressure was 165 over 110. Super high. Basically short of being hauled out of there by an ambulance the chemo must go on. Anyways the woman was fine and was told that she shouldn't have another reaction and would always be given IV benadryl prior to Taxotere. It made me really grateful that my body is tolerating this treatment so well.
