I couldn't resist taking a picture of the peaches I canned the past two days. There aren't very many things prettier than these this time of year. I can't help but remembering my mom this time of year. I have fond memories of her canning peaches, applesauce, pears, and tomatoes. Right after we bought our first home, she offered the peaches off her tree and taught me how to bottle them. She didn't even remember why she did somethings the way she did, but her mom did them that way and so she followed suit. It makes me smile to still follow her directions. Everyday, my kids come home from school and hope that either I have cleaned up my canning mess or that it is not their turn for dishes. However, this fall and winter as we open up a can of summer peaches those dishes, sticky counters, floors, and hot house will be long forgotten and we'll all be enjoying a little taste of summer.

Peaches, Peaches and More Peaches

What a sweet memory, Julie... It makes me terribly grateful that I still have my Mom around so I can ask my one million canning questions every season!
I've been canning up a storm myself, and the sticky mess is all worth it come that first snowfall!
(((hugs)))
MMM, those are some of my favorites too. I just canned my peaches last week, and I have to say I am so glad they are done! I learned a trick from my MIL to do all the canning outside on the patio, and use a camp stove to do cooking/processing. It's so much easier to clean the patio with the hose than to mop the floor. And the house stays cool. Call me anytime you want some canning company. :)
Where did you find your peaches? I'm looking for bushels of them to can. Have I missed my chance?
I love this page, greatinfo, wonderful pictures, I love your canning story. My Mother canned a lot too, and we helped her, when each of the lids did the little "pop" to say it sealed, she would walk around saying thank you, thank you, she felt each pop was a blessing from Heavenly Father, blessing her hard days work, and she thanked Him for each and every one He blessed, sometimes 40 - 60 thank you's would be said by her in an evening. Thanks for sharing all this with us. I will pass this site on to the others asking about you and this page. take care, Love, Colleen
I think I am the only person not canning peaches right now! They look so yummy!
They taste just as good as they look. You are a domestic goddess!
What a superstar! I can't believe you have been canning in the midst of all you have going on! It makes me feel VERY VERY lazy. My mom didn't can much - salsa usually, and that is all I know. Someday you will have to show me your "tricks" you learned from your mom and I will try to can some new things. I think you are the best example of having a good attitude and "just doing it"! love ya ! Tiff
